TMT bars or Thermo-Mechanically Treated Bars are high-strength reinforcing bars that have a soft core and a strong external layer. While developing TMT bars they are initially steel wires that are passed through a rolling mill stand. After that, these rolled steel bars are then passed through a water cooling system which gives high strength to the bars.

TMT bars are commonly used in concrete reinforcement structures, bridges, and flyovers, dams, thermal and hydel power plants, industrial structures, high-rise buildings, underground platforms in metro railway and rapid transport system.

The strength of the bars is watchfully controlled by optimizing the pressure of water for the pearlitic core and hard surface of tempered martensite, thereby offering a maximum strength, toughness, and ductility.
TMT Bars are thermo-mechanically-treated through the temp core based machinery for high yield strength and power. The process involves speedy quenching of the hot bars through a series of water jets after they spin out of the last mill stand. The bars are cooled, letting the core and surface temperatures to even out. The bar core cools down gradually to turn into a ferrite-pearlite aggregate.
