MS Angle

High Yeilding Strength Deformed Bars have more yield strength than Mild Steel, but are much prone to deformations than TMT Steel bars. Both mild steel and HYSD bars are weaker than TMT Steel bars.

The term TMT stands for Thermo-Mechanical Treatment, a metallurgical process that combines mechanical deformation (like compression or forging, rolling etc.) with thermal processes (like heat-treatment, quenching, etc)

In simple words, The freshly rolled steel rod that is at a very high temperature, is cooled rapidly at its periphery (quenching), creating a layer of hard material called martensite. The rod shrinks due to cooling, which compresses the rod, arranging the crystalline structure uniformly, which helps the rod achieve strength. After heat-treatment, the rod's core remains hot, thus forming a ferrite-pearlite inner layer, making the rod ductile.

Thus, the TMT process helps the steel rod achieve its strength and ductility, and it can be incorporated using heat recovery in their manufacturing process.
